The undisputed star of the month of July, the Umbria Jazz Festival is the most keenly awaited event in Umbria. Perugia has welcomed world-famous jazzmen such as James Brown, Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins and Keith Jarret to Umbria Jazz, and musicians are always keen to return. But the true queen of the event is Perugia itself with its timeless charm, its stones rich in history and its breathtaking scenery.
From 5 to 14 July the festival offers a rich programme of concerts and musical moments, some free, some with an admission charge, to enjoy in the streets, arenas and theatres of the Umbrian capital.
The towns of Lake Trasimeno, on the other hand, dance to the rhythm of the blues with the 18th edition of the Trasimeno Blues Festival from 18 to 28 July in Castiglione del Lago, Città della Pieve, Magione, Panicale and more.
Meanwhile in Spoleto, the 56th edition of the Two Worlds Festival continues with dance, music and theatrical performances, often making their world début or produced exclusively for the festival. The final concert in Piazza Duomo on Sunday 14 July is one of the most keenly awaited events of the festival, and one of rare beauty. Don’t miss the fireworks on the Ponte delle Torri that close the Festival.
For a more laid-back atmosphere, in the first week of July we recommend a trip to the mountains of Preci, a historic village in the Valnerina area nestling in the Sibillini National Park. The occasion is, as always, a gourmet one, but that’s not all. “Pane, prosciutto e... fantasia” is so much more than simply a cured ham festival. The programme includes guided tours of the mill and the museum of surgery, a market exhibition of typical produce, donkey rides, re-enactment of historic professions and much more. A wonderful journey to an area rich in history to discover authentic traditions and flavours.
Finally, from 7 to 21 July the skies of Todi are painted with the colours of the rainbow for the Hot Air Balloon Grand Prix. Dozens of hot air balloons from all over Europe soar over Todi and its magnificent surrounding countryside. A truly unique spectacle!
