Tradition and culture: June festivals and events in Umbria

June events in Umbria

Events in Umbria in June are steeped in tradition and as always, there is also a wealth of cultural happenings.

The Flower Festival in Spello

On the first weekend in June the streets of Spello are covered with flowers for the solemn Corpus Domini procession. It all happens in the night of Saturday to Sunday, when the inhabitants of Spello gather in the streets of the historic centre to create magnificent floral carpets, the famous Infiorate

The Medieval Festival in Bevagna

A stone’s throw from Spello, in another charming historic village you can relive the atmosphere of a medieval hamlet in a faithful reconstruction of traditional professions. Bevagna’s “Mercato delle Gaite” is a unique opportunity to admire old customs and discover how books were copied and bound, which plants were used by the apothecaries of the time and how a parchment or a candle was made.

The "Quintana" jousting event in Foligno

From 31 May to 15 June, Foligno returns to the days of extravagance and the town’s ten neighbourhoods compete for the highly prized Palio della Quintana on Sunday 15. A horse race that leaves you holding your breath until the very last second, a historic parade of rare beauty and the warm atmosphere that pervades throughout the city makes the Foligno's Quintana one of the most characteristic events in Umbria in June. Be sure to dine at a tavern in order to sample excellent dishes of baroque inspiration, revisited in Umbrian style.

The weekend of 8 and 9 June, do not miss out on the happenings in Vallo di Nera, which celebrates the cheese of the Valnerina valley with "Fior di Cacio". It is a unique opportunity to visit a beautiful, perfectly preserved historic village, discover the stages in the production of the famous Meggiano ricotta cheese and retrace the ancient pathways for migratory herding at an informative gourmet event that also features moments of pure entertainment...

The famous Spoleto Festival

In the second half of June, art and culture are the absolute protagonists in Umbria with three major events. From 21 to 30 June, Todi hosts the Todi Tango Festival with world-renowned dancers and masters of Argentine tango, while 28 and 29 June see the inaugurations respectively of the Two Worlds Festival in Spoleto, which continues to 14 July, and the Trasimeno Music Festival in Magione until 5 July.

The common denomenator of these events is an exceptional creator: composer Gian Carlo Menotti from Spoleto and Canadian pianist Angela Hewitt. We’ll leave you to discover the rest yourself...

Finally, we remind you that from 13 to 16 June Todi will host the first Minibasket in Piazza basketball event and Foligno welcomes fans of electronic music and the digital arts with “Dancity” from 27 to 29 June.

The long summer evenings...

Watching Assisi in the distance or the Santa Maria degli Angeli Cathedral from a marble bench behind the oak…

Sipping a glass of good wine while contemplating the olive grove

Relaxing by the pool and waiting for the night to come…
